Trip Conduct: The Wheel & Anchor Way

Written by Wheel & Anchor | Nov 5, 2026, 9:49:06 PM

Booking a trip with us implies that you have read and understand The Wheel & Anchor Way, which is a set of principles that all of our members commit to in the way they conduct themselves on a trip.

Our shared travel principles

As a mature and well-travelled community, we don’t believe in setting strict rules. Instead, we offer this “code of conduct” as a guide—one that ensures every trip is a respectful, harmonious, and deeply rewarding experience for all. By agreeing to these principles, we set the stage for memorable journeys filled with warmth, learning, and adventure.

The Wheel & Anchor Way covers:

  • A Commitment to Respect and Kindness
  • Cultural Sensitivity and Thoughtful Travel
  • Being a Responsible and Considerate Traveller
  • Fostering a Positive and Inclusive Group Experience
  • Safety and Well-Being
  • Consequences and Reporting

What happens if conduct becomes a concern

Addressing issues with discretion. While we hope that these guidelines come naturally to all, there may be rare instances where behaviour negatively impacts the experience of others. We encourage open communication and will handle concerns with respect and confidentiality.

The Wheel & Anchor Way is the governing document which will be relied upon to determine if your conduct warrants expulsion from a trip.

In the event that your conduct shall be deemed in conflict with the Wheel & Anchor Way, you will be given verbal notice, followed by written notice, followed by notice of termination of their trip without compensation or reimbursement if such conduct is not appropriately remedied. If your conduct constitutes an imminent threat to the safety of any other member of the trip or any person contracted by W&A for the provision of services related to the trip, we reserve the right to expel you immediately, without notice.

Enforcement of expectations. In cases of repeated or serious violations of this Code of Conduct, a traveller may be asked to leave the trip at their own expense, without refund. Those who demonstrate a pattern of disruptive behaviour may be uninvited from future Wheel & Anchor trips.

When in doubt, revisit our traveller's creed.

The Traveller’s Creed

  1. I will approach each trip with the same excitement and anticipation as the first time I travelled; I will allow myself to get excited and stay excited
  2. I will travel slowly and deliberately; I will fully immerse myself in and be present to the experience; I will look up at buildings and down at cobblestones, and be grateful for every breathtaking moment during my travels
  3. I will try the local food and drink, so as to expand my palate and my appreciation of other cultures
  4. I will be gracious and generous with our foreign hosts
  5. I will inform myself about where I’m going before I get there, including learning at least a few phrases of the local language
  6. I will seek out both sunrises and sunsets, to soak in the energy and colours of the sun from another part of our planet, and I will keep an open mind and a compassionate heart, celebrating the friendship and camaraderie of my fellow travellers
  7. I will have patience and understand that not everything works as it does at home
